Pre-requisites
If you have below configuration, then only you will be able to set up Cloudera QuickStart VM and see every thing in action.

- 16 GB RAM (10 GB RAM should be given to virtual machine)
- Quad Core (2 cores should be given to virtual machine)
- Storage is not typically a constraint.
If you do not have above configuration, do not try to set up virtual machine on your PC.
Setting up VirtualBox
We have chosen VirtualBox over VMWare products or Linux KVM as it is free and work on Windows, Mac, Linux etc.

Here are the steps to setup VirtualBox on Windows or Mac.
- Download latest version of VirtualBox from here (choose based on your OS)
- Install using typical installation
- Launch VirtualBox (but do not create any virtual machines)

- Open the files using VirtualBox
Cloudera QuickStart VM – Quick Tour
QuickStart VM provided by Cloudera can be used to understand basic admin tasks such as stopping and starting servers, troubleshooting the issues etc.

- Launch Cloudera QuickStart VM
- On desktop there are icons to launch trial version of enterprise edition and full version of express edition – click on one of them.
- It will start all the services
- Now go to browser (firefox) and click on Cloudera Manager tab (it should launch URL on port number 7180)
- After a while you will see all the services (all of them should be ideally running)
- Now let us go through Cloudera Manager web interface and understand hosts, services, configuration files and log files.
